Konita Forbes Dougherty, 79, passed away January 31, 2023, with family by her side. Born to the late Richard and Velma Forbes of Angola, IN in 1943 she graduated from Angola High School in 1961. She first attended Taylor University before transferring to her beloved IU where she obtained her BA and MA in Education. Returning to Angola to begin her teaching career as the High School Speech and Drama teacher, she met and married Tom Dougherty of Fremont, IN. Together they had 4 children. The family moved to Colstrip, MT in 1981. Konita served as the Colstrip High School Counselor for 7 years. She was active in the Montana Counselors Association and served as an officer before returning to IN where she worked as the Counselor at Avon High School. After leaving Avon she went on to be the Day Care Director at Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church before landing in her final career as the Standardized Test writer for High School English for 4 Western States.
Konita was passionate about God, family, music, education, and everything IU. She sang in the church choir, was active in Habitat for Humanity, and loved to travel. She is survived by her 4 children, 7 grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law, 3 nieces, 4 nephews and numerous cousins. She joins her late husband, Tom, who has been waiting for her for 3 years in their Heavenly Home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The Indiana Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center via the Indiana University Foundation, Inc. to help find a cure for the hideous disease that stole our brilliant mother’s mind one memory at a time.
