Indianapolis, Indiana – Kirby Watkins, 61, passed away on January 27, 2025, after being comforted by friends and family. His love, his stories and his pranks will be deeply missed.
Kirby was born on July 7, 1963, to parents Charles Edward & Barbara Claire (Thompson) Watkins in Indianapolis. He graduated from Warren Central High School in 1981 and went on to attend Purdue, University of Indianapolis, and finally receiving his doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine from The National Chiropractic College in Chicago, Illinois. Following in his father’s footsteps, Kirby's intention was to work together with Charles at the Chiropractic Health Clinic in Irvington, Indianapolis, but Charles passed away unexpectedly. Kirby maintained that office for 34 years.
Most importantly though, he met his future wife Kathleen Dawn Watkins, in 1984. After a whirlwind courtship, they married on July 27, 1985, and celebrated 39 years together this past year. Together they raised their son Kyle.
Kirby loved racing in all of its forms. He had a particular fondness for drag racing and motorcycle racing. He also could be found bowling (especially with his son Kyle), building RC Cars, or tinkering in his garage. A jack-of-all-trades, Kirby could fix anything with the help of his brother Kalon.
Kirby was a jovial man who loved to make people laugh. A jokester at heart, he could always be counted on for some slapstick or an intentionally prolonged story that would leave you cracking up.
Kirby is survived by his beloved wife Dawn (Martin) Watkins, son Kyle Watkins (Linda), brother Kalon Watkins (Marilyn), sister Cara Watkins, 9 nieces and nephews, and 13 great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229) on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 4 pm – 8 pm.
