Kerry Lawrence Steeno

May 8, 1948 — January 30, 2021

McCordsville, Indiana

Kerry Lawrence Steeno, age 72, residing in Hancock County, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021, at IU Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

Kerry was born on May 8, 1948 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to the late Donald Lawrence and Eunice (Dewitt) Steeno.  He was a graduate of Preble High in Green Bay, WI and attended University of Wisconsin Green Bay before heading into the Army. He was stationed in Alabama when he met his wife, Elizabeth Hollon. They were united in marriage on April 4, 1970. She gave birth to Brandon Michael Steeno while in Alabama before moving to Indianapolis and being blessed with two more children, Christopher Ryan Steeno and Sarah Elizabeth Steeno. Kerry resided in Indiana for 30 years raising his children and putting his stamp on the community. He became a member of the First Baptist Church in Cumberland and was a Deacon which was very important to him. Kerry would take the bus downtown every day to work at the bank before landing a construction job in 1973. That started his path to becoming one of the most sought-after general contractors. At the start he forged a life-long friendship with the owner of DART Corporation (out of Carmel), Dave Freiburger, where he and Dave built a strong reputation on the commercial development industry in Indiana. In the late 1980’s Kerry started his own company and would become the General Contractor for many of the large corporate commercial buildings we see across this state. This success allowed Kerry and his partners to extend the business into Florida, where for 12 years, he left his mark on the Development industry. In 2014 he moved back to Indiana to be closer to his young grandkids. It couldn’t have been a better fit for him to “retire” to Indiana and work one job site at a time for Dave’s son and family at JRF Construction. He loved being around his family here at home and his Freiburger family at work. His biggest accomplishment in life had nothing to do with construction, it was becoming a Grandfather. Kerry loved being “Poppy” to his four grandkids. He was loving and silly and taught them many lessons of life in his own fun way.

For many years he would work jobs far away, but always found time to coach the kid’s sport teams, contribute to the community and volunteer at church.  He loved being a softball coach and school supporter as he coached and watched his daughter play all the way through high school. He created a soccer program in his community that is still around and thriving. He loved watching his son’s carrying the torch of youth soccer in the community and watching all the Grandkids play in the program his started. Kerry was a huge Green Bay Packers fan and season ticket holder which is a family tradition the kids will hand off to their kids.

Kerry is survived by son, Brandon Michael Steeno (Greenfield); son, Christopher Ryan Steeno (Mt. Comfort); daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Steeno (Greenfield); brother, Randy Steeno and Sister-in-law, Chris Steeno(Green Bay, WI); brother, Allen Steeno and Sister-in-law, Michelle Steeno (Green Bay, WI); brother, Brian Steeno and Sister-in-law, Michelle Steeno (Green Bay, WI) ; step-mother Jean Steeno (Green Bay, WI); brother-in-law, Frank Hollon (Alabama); sister-in-law, Jane (Hollon) Lee (Florida); daughter-in-law, Krista Lee Steeno (Brandon); daughter-in-law, Angela Marie Steeno (Christopher) and daughter-in-law, Lesley Michelle Hubert (Sarah).
