Kent Lee Campbell, 54, passed away peacefully on December 16, surrounded by family in his beloved Broad Ripple home in Indianapolis, IN.
Kent was a 1986 graduate of Yorktown High School and a 1990 graduate of Ball State University. While he worked in information technology, his true calling was service—to friends and community. He was an active member of Christ The King Church and Chair of the church’s summer festival, which became his passion project over the years. Kent was also a talented photographer, capturing countless photos of family and friends. In the last few years of his life, he was able to combine his faith and his professional talents to serve as the Director of Information Technology for the Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
To many Kent was their closest friend, the guy you called when you needed help, and the curator of life experiences. He understood, even before facing his own mortality, the importance of moments of connection and memories with the people he loved. He deeply cherished his friendships, and many considered him family.
He loved “his girls” (his wife and daughters) and he loved life. After marrying Danielle, who he called “his best gift,” he became an adoring husband and smitten girl dad. An avid water skier, he spent many summers on Indiana lakes teaching his girls to ski, instilling the lesson of perseverance. No crying. If you fall, get up. Try again. This is how he lived his 5-year-battle with cancer. Even while enduring endless rounds of chemotherapy, he never let his sickness define the time he had left. As Kent would often say, “I’m one of the happiest guys you’ll know.”
He will forever be our North Star on how to live life to the fullest. Do the thing. Create the memories. No matter what. And always, always have a good time. This is his truest legacy.
Kent is survived by his wife of 12 years, Danielle Pugh Campbell; daughters Zoe and Sydney Campbell (ages 11 and 9); parents James and Lois Campbell; brothers Ned (Melissa) and Mark (Cheryl) Campbell; Parents-in-law Dan and Diane Pugh; brother-in law David (Stephanie) Pugh; along with numerous dear nieces and nephews in the Pugh and Campbell families; He was preceded in death by his sister Vicki Campbell.
