Kenneth "Jumbo" Lehr

It is with sadness that the family of Kenneth E. (Jumbo) Lehr announces his passing on February 1, 2019, at the age of 83 years.  He has passed from this earthly life, but has gone to a beautiful, wonderful new home.  Jum was born in Martinsville, Indiana on May 7, 1935, to Ollie Phillip and Irene Cleo (Sparks) Lehr.  Jum will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Judith Lynne (Boyd) Lehr. Jum and Judy were married on March 31, 1956 in the Bradford Woods Methodist Church.  Jum has four children:  Terri Harmon, Jeff Lehr (Sandy), Tony Lehr (Susie), and Wendi Wright.  Jum will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Sarah, Joe, Andy, Cliff, Sharon, Lauren, Casey, Kim, Ashley, Melanie, Stephanie and Brian.  He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren.  Jum is survived by several siblings:  Patsy Van Blaricum, Wilma Chambers, James (Alice) Lehr, and Jerry (Tina) Lehr.  He also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Jacque Morgan, and Jo Tillery.  He was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Ruth McCart, a son-in-law, Joe Harmon, and two brothers-in-law, Ernest Morgan and Ralph Tillery. Jum graduated from Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Indiana in 1956.  He and Judy lived in the same little country home together in Martinsville for about 50 years, and made many happy memories raising their four children.  Jum and Judy moved to Indianapolis in June 2015 to be closer to some of their adult children.  Jum quickly made friends with his new neighbors, and became a competitive mainstay player at the daily euchre table. Jum worked at a few machine shops around Indianapolis before hiring on to Allison Division of General Motors in the fall of 1961.  He had a very strong work ethic, which he passed on to each of his children, and he finally retired from Allison in 1992. Jum’s hobbies included fishing, bowling, country music, and pheasant hunting with his late brother-in-law, Ernie.  He also enjoyed working in his garage to mold his own fishing lures and sinkers.  His children and grandchildren will remember him as being one of their greatest supporters.  He was a hands-on grandpa and loved getting outside or down on the floor to play with his grandchildren.  Later in life, he was the keeper of his famous peanut butter fudge recipe, which he made at Christmas and other special occasions.  One of the greatest gifts Jum ever gave to friends and family members was his rendition of “Happy Birthday” on your birthday.  You could always count on getting that call, and he never missed a single one.  This is one memory that will be missed by so many in the years to come. A funeral service for Jum on will be held on February 8, 2019 at 11am at Flanner Buchanan—Floral Park, 425 North Holt Road, Indianapolis.  Burial will follow at Floral Park Cemetery across the street from Flanner Buchanan following the service.  Visitation for Jum will take place from 3pm to 7pm on February 7, 2019.
