Kenneth Joseph Hunt, 87, of Fountaintown, Indiana, passed away March 12th, 2025. He was born in Indianapolis, on August 12th, 1937, to Theodore and Margaret Mae Hunt. He graduated from Tech High School in 1955 and went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ellen Lakin soon after on October 14, 1956. They were together for 47 years. The two were blessed with 3 wonderful children.
Kenneth aka Ken/ Kenny had lived a full life with various jobs and careers. His first job was at the Indianapolis Star as a paper boy at just 8 years old. At the Emerson theater, he was an usher. While in high school he joined the United States Marines Corps as a Reserve between 1956-1960. He had a job with Pittman Moore in Shipping and Receiving between 1956-1964. Ken was a Furniture Delivery man for L.S. Ayres in 1964-1992. In 1964, he started a heroic career with the Indianapolis Fire Department and retired after 28 years. Soon after retirement, he wanted to stay busy, so he had a part time job picking up the elderly, taking them their medicine and chauffeuring them to and from appointments.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Margaret Mae Hunt; his siblings Ronald Hunt and Rita Malone. His beloved wife, Barbara Ellen Hunt. His great grandchild Noah Lee Strawser and grandchildren Kenneth Richard Ford and James Patrick Ford.
Ken is survived by his wonderful children Rebecca Sue (Phillip) Bates, Linda Lou Tyree, and Daniel Joseph (Karla) Hunt. His 13 grandchildren (and spouses), his 27 great grandchildren (and spouse) and his 7 great-great grandchildren.
Ken’s visitation will be at 12-2pm with funeral service to follow at 2pm Friday the 21st of March will be held at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East. We will be doing a tribute procession by the fire station in honor of his firefighting career. A military graveside service to honor his commitment to his country will take place directly after at Washington Park East Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to United State Marine Corps and the Indianapolis Fire Department.
