Kenneth Edward Biberstein

February 8, 1947 — February 20, 2023

Indianapolis, IN

Kenneth E. Biberstein, 76, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Monday, February 20, 2023, in Robin Run Rehab Center.

Ken was born in Berne, Indiana, on February 8, 1947, to Alton and Metter Esther (Sprunger) Biberstein.

In 1969, he married Shirley Bates Biberstein who preceded him in death in 1989.

Ken was a devoted member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of Indianapolis. He was a graduate of Berne French High School, went to on receive an undergraduate degree from Ball State, and a Master’s Degree in art education from St. Francis University. His teaching middle school and high school art in Freemont, Fort Wayne, and Plainfield spanned a period of thirty-seven years.

To know Ken was to perceive his priorities in life: faith, family, friends, flowers, art, music, football (his much-loved Colts), and basketball (his beloved IU). Ken had a unique gift for intertwining the Spiritual into his day-to-day living. As he tended meticulously to his flourishing gardens, Ken “saw God at work in nature.” And with respect to St. Luke’s worship music he wrote, “It will always leave a lasting impression on my soul. My heart explodes with joy that only God appreciates.”

Ken is survived in death by his wife Patricia (La Fontaine) Biberstein, two daughters Chanda Becker of Fishers and Kara Wolf of Indianapolis, two grandsons Chad Becker and Finn Shirmeyer, two sisters Elsie Rigdon of North Manchester, and Gaynelle (Dan) Study of Spencerville, his brother Dave (Joleen) Biberstein of Columbia City, sisters-in-law Rhina Biberstein of Berne, Judy La Fontaine of Decatur, Ann (Jack) Grothaus of Delphos, Ohio, Ruth (Charlie) Ellis of Dubuque, Iowa, and Sherry La Fontaine of Van Wert, Ohio.

Ken was preceded in death by his brother Bob Biberstein, his sister Nancy Neuenschwander, and two brothers-in-law Ed La Fontaine and John La Fontaine.
