Kelli M. McLaughlin, 45, of Carmel passed away at home surrounded by her family on April 21, 2023. She was born July 12, 1977 in Indianapolis, the daughter of John and Gloria (Setser) Abell. She married Ryan McLaughlin on September 30, 2016.
In December 2017, Kelli created Clothes With A Cause, a boutique where 100% of the profits were donated to organizations striving to make this world a more beautiful place. CWAC’s mission was to offer all people, locally, nationally, and internationally, the chance to make an impact in this world. By purchasing clothing and household items, Kelli inspired thousands of people to join in her incredible passion of supporting people in need. Spreading kindness to others both near and far was central to Kelli’s life, and CWAC created an opportunity where all people had a convenient way to be kind. One of Kelli’s greatest joys was creating the Hoosier Humanity Project, which focused on providing wrapped Christmas gifts, including winter clothing items, nonperishable food, and hygiene products, to people experiencing homelessness. Kelli believed that all people had value, and that belief permeated every aspect of her life.
In response to her diagnosis of Glioblastoma (GBM) in October 2021, Kelli’s heart was opened to a new community of people, her fellow brain cancer warriors all over the world. GBM is a rare and obscure disease with minimal survivors. The lack of awareness and funding prevents improvements in standards of care and treatment for those fighting GBM. Kelli’s response to this need was to raise both awareness and funding by creating Kelli’s Kegs N Eggs 5K. This annual event raises money for the American Brain Tumor Association and provides College Legacy Scholarships, as well as general financial assistance, for local families impacted by GBM. This year’s Kelli’s Kegs N Eggs 5K will take place at 9:00 a.m. on May 20, 2023 at Bier Brewery North located in Carmel, IN: https://www.kelliskegsneggs.org.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ryan McLaughlin; four children, Madyson (Nick) Wise, Kayla Phillips, Micah Phillips, and Harper McLaughlin; granddaughter, Judea Wise; parents, John and Gloria Abell; brother, Ryan (Amy) Abell; and four nephews, Noah, Liam, Tucker, and Tyson Abell.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday April 25, 2023 (the perfect date), at Mercy Road Church Northwest, 9511 Angola Court, Indianapolis. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.until the time of service at the church. In honor of Kelli’s giving nature and wanting to care for others, guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to a local food pantry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Brain Tumor Association: https://give.abta.org/fundraiser/3752565.
