Keith David Gilpatrick, 38, of Indianapolis gained his heavenly wings on October 7, 2024. He was born in Beech Grove, Indiana on November 19, 1985, to his loving parents David and Lisa Gilpatrick.
Keith graduated from Franklin Central High School in 2004. He then went on to obtain his undergraduate degree from IUPUI in 2009. Keith began his teaching career upon graduating and began to fall in love with making a difference in young peoples’ lives. Keith’s passion was mentorship. He took students under his wing and provided them the guidance and love they desperately needed. He was an advocate for their success, and because of that he was well admired by his students. They affectionately referred to him as “Mr. G”. In 2014 while Keith was teaching in Pike Township, he was awarded the “Superintendents Award”. Keith obtained his master’s degree from Ball State University in 2017. During his teaching career, Keith taught at schools within Pike Township, IPS, Wayne Township, Crispus Attucks, and most recently was a Vice Principal at North Putnam Middle School. He also served as the athletic director there. He always brought a refreshing perspective to better serve the students within his community. The impact Keith had on his students, schools, and peers is undeniable.
Keith’s personality and positivity radiated through those around him. You may remember his endless supply of movie quotes, or his love for music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and occasionally busting out in song. He was an avid Colts fan, and loved Notre Dame football as well.
Keith wore many titles throughout his life, but the title he cherished the most was certainly “dad”. He loved his children, Ella and Charlie, more than anything. He never missed a chance to share their successes with them.
Recently Keith was named the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indianapolis Patient of the Year. To say that he was adored by the hospital staff would be an understatement. Keith and his “mentor mentality” never ceased to provide guidance and constructive criticism to hospital staff in training. He was truly valued everywhere he went. Keith courageously fought Leukemia for the past four years. Despite his diagnosis, his passion for life and his positivity remained. He was a true hero.
It was simple, to know Keith was to love him. His smile lit up any room he was in, his laugh was infectious, and he had an overall love for life that inspired those around him. Keith was larger than life.
Although Keith left this world undoubtedly too soon, he left an inspirational legacy that will forever be remembered. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to experience his kindness, guidance, and love.
Keith’s legacy includes his parents, David and Lisa Gilpatrick; his children, Ella and Charlie Gilpatrick; his sisters, Jessica E. (Sean) Gilpatrick and Erin (Josh) Brown; his wife, Jessica S. Gilpatrick; his paternal grandparents, Charlie and Wilma Gilpatrick; his nieces and nephews, Aubrey, Olivia, Cayce, Cassidy, Josie, Tanner, and Eli; a long list of aunts, uncles, beloved cousins, extended family members and friends; and his fur babies, Rue and B.
