Indianapolis

Indianapolis, Indiana – Kathy Lee, 70, of Indianapolis, was called to tend the great garden on January 4, 2025.

Kathy was born on December 8, 1954, to parents Norman Lee & Janet (Rudman) Webb in Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Arlington High School in 1973 and went on to attain her dental hygienists degree from Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia. She worked for many years as a dental hygienist before retiring.

Kathy met her future husband while they were in high school. They were married a few years after she graduated from high school on July 26, 1975. By then, her husband was an officer in the US Marines and she was a military spouse. They travelled around the United States to various military bases including Navy/Marine military bases in Beaufort, SC; Texas, and Yuma, AZ. While they were travelling around the country Kathy became a first generation college student and she attended classes at various colleges.

She continued expanding her education and became a lifelong learner. She took classes in whatever subject areas interested her at the time. She also received a degree from Ivy Tech College and she was a current student at Indiana University- Indianapolis (formerly known as IUPUI) pursuing another degree in Public Health. While she was completing her college courses, in 2002 she also started working on becoming a Purdue Master Gardner. She attained the level of “Gold” Master Gardner with over 4000 hours of service. Which not many do! She participated in many volunteer gardening/educational activities around the city of Indianapolis including with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, the Indianapolis Zoo, the Indiana State Museum, and the Indiana State Fair to name just a few. These volunteer activities allowed her to fulfill her strong passion for gardening and sharing her knowledge with others and to help maintain and build out their gardens.

While Kathy’s true joy and passion was in gardening she also volunteered at the Indiana State Museum as a greeter and information specialist, with American Red Cross and American Heart Association with certifications in their Basic Life Support and CPR/AED programs.

When not devoting her time to others, Kathy enjoyed sewing, knitting, and reading.

Kathy is preceded in death by her father, Norman Lee, mother and stepfather, William & Janet (Rudman) Webb; grandparents, Mark Rudman and Alice (Compton) and H. Verne Arney &, Eldred & Katie (Schifferdecker) Lee; brother Michael Lee; and her nephew Justin Hill.
