Kathryn Irene Birtwhistle

Kathryn Irene Birtwhistle, 68 of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday October 19, 2019 after a brief, valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on November 26, 1950 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Henry and Irene McMahon. She grew up on the eastside of Indianapolis, and later completed nursing school at Ball State. She spent her 43 year career working as an RN at St. Vincent’s hospital. She began at the old hospital on Fall Creek Rd, and spent much of her time in labor and delivery. After many years serving in labor and delivery, she moved to the Internal Fetal Medicine group. Over the course of her life, she proudly helped to bring thousands of babies into the world, day and night.

Kathy was an avid reader, loved music, travel, cooking, camping, and most of all – spending time with family.Upon retirement, Kathy enjoyed exploring new restaurants with Charlie, traveling, and reading, during warm winters in Florida.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband of over 47 years, Charles H. Birtwhistle; children, Tim (Mary) Birtwhistle, Dan (Julie) Birtwhistle, and Ellen (Nicholas) Abt; grandchildren, Alexandra Abt, Caroline Abt, Conor Abt, Michael Birtwhistle, Katie Birtwhistle, and Miles Birtwhistle; sister, Mary (James) Griffiths; sister-in-law, Susan (Gary) Robinson; and mother-in-law, Mary Marjorie Birtwhistle. She is preceded in passing by her brother, John K. McMahon.

Friends and family are invited to gather on Friday October 25, 2019 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at St. Matthew Catholic Church (4100 East 56th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46220), where a funeral mass will begin at noon. Memorial contributions may be made to Second Helpings.
