June D. Pfeifer

April 26, 1930 — August 23, 2019

Indianapolis, Indiana

Cherished by all who knew her, June Deloris (Bloom) Pfeifer, 89, has moved to her mansion in Paradise to be with loved ones who preceded her in death, including her Army Air Corps veteran husband of 56 years, Robert Franklin Pfeifer, who passed away on July 16, 2007 and called her “Bugs”. The couple enriched the lives of their four children, April Lyn McKee (Dan); Craig Steven Pfeifer (Kim); David Brian Pfeifer (Cathy); and Bruce Allen Pfeifer (Diane).

This beautiful, intelligent, spunky, fun lady was born April 26, 1930, to Mildred Estelle (Joslin) and August Peter Bloom in Indianapolis, Indiana. June, who passed away on August 23, doted on her 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; her late younger brother Donald Menton Bloom and his wife Pat; late brother William August Bloom and his wife Barb, of California; 4 nieces and 2 nephews; a parcel of first and second cousins spanning four generations and who gathered every December for a longtime tradition of Christmases with the Cousins parties; and countless friends.

She was also an avid dog lover and was dog Mom to several pooches during her life, including Frisbee and Mr. Bentley.

A retired nurse, June started her career on the same day of the Oct 31, 1963 explosion inside the Indiana State Fair Pepsi Coliseum that killed 74 and injured hundreds of other patrons. Originally assigned to the pediatric ward at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, June was reassigned to help with the hospital’s I.V. Team. Later in her career, she worked for Drs. Jim Dillman and Jordan Ross, both podiatrists.

June was an ace at assembling several-hundred-piece puzzles and choosing just the right crayons for coloring books for adults. She loved traveling, whale-watching, and weather-related phenomena; shopping; baking fabulous and fancy desserts; eating strawberry ice cream cones from Handel’s; getting mani-pedis; planting (and receiving) flowers; playing the organ/keyboard; listening to Elvis Presley tunes; and as the family historian, sharing memories, especially about “the Girls,” who in reality were her cousins but who seemed more like sisters. “The Girls,” as the family always refers to them are now reunited.

June’s visitation and celebration of life will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St, Indianapolis. Visitation is scheduled Thursday, August 29 from 11 AM to 2 PM with the Funeral Service beginning at 2 PM. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Riley Children’s Foundation, 30 S Meridian St #200, Indianapolis, IN 46204 or Brookdale Hospice, 9100 N. Purdue Rd, Ste 100, Indianapolis, IN 46268.

The family also wishes to publicly thank the Nursing Honor Guard for its powerful, respectful, and beautiful tribute to our beloved matriarch known to many as Juniebloom.
