Judith Katherine (Arnott) Stusrud
September 24, 1940 – February 21, 2025
Indianapolis, IN
Judith A. Stusrud passed away on February 21, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 24, 1940, to the late Loretta (Walpole) Arnott and Lawrence Arnott.
Judy spent most of her childhood in the heart of the Midwest in the small town of Monticello, Indiana. She had fond memories of spending time on her grandparent’s farm, water skiing on Lake Shafer and attending concerts at Indiana Beach. Judy graduated from Twin Lakes high school in 1959.
After her high school graduation, Judy attended Indiana University where she studied Dental Hygiene. Throughout her time in the dental school, she was part of the research team that helped to develop Crest Toothpaste.
Graduating from Indiana University in 1963, Judy moved to South Bend for a short time to gather experience in her field. Relocating to Indianapolis in 1965, Judy met her husband of 57 years, Robert (Bob) Stusrud. They were married on April 8th, 1967 and they honeymooned in Mexico. Judy and Bob built a life together in Indianapolis where they lived for over 50 years, raising two children (Wendy Stusrud Arndt and Katherine Stusrud Friedman).
Judy was an active tennis player and you could often find her on the court. She and Bob played mixed doubles with their friends and with their girls. She was also a passionate traveler and loved discovering new places with Bob and her children.
Judy loved to be outside, in the sunshine and had a passion for gardening. She was a member of the Trailing Arbutus Garden Club and loved visiting gardens whenever she traveled. She spent time as a volunteer at the Eagle Creek Park and Nature Reserve, giving tours of the grounds describing the various plants, trees and flowers to the visitors.
Judy particularly loved being around her grandchildren. She was always happy to listen to every detail about their triumphs and adventures. Judy was a creative mother and grandmother, helping with school projects, bake fairs, sports, and instilling curiosity in her children and grandchildren.
Above all, Judy was known for her kindness. She was always willing to help a friend in need, making sure everyone felt included, important, and comfortable. It is this legacy that will live on in her children and grandchildren.
Judy is survived by her daughters, Wendy Stusrud (Ron Arndt) and Katherine Stusrud (Jeff Friedman); grandchildren, Alexander Arndt, Luke Arndt, Benjamin Friedman and Madeleine (Maddie) Friedman.
