Judith Anne “Judy” Torrence Pottenger
Judy Pottenger passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28 at the age of 91. Judy was born in Indianapolis to Frank and Lois Torrence and was a proud graduate of Howe High School. While she and her husband, Dwight, lived in Indianapolis most of their lives they enjoyed living near family in Zionsville for the last 8 years.
Judy began a career as a personal shopper at L.S. Ayers until getting married to Dwight, her husband of 68 years. After daughter Betsy was born she became a full-time mom and housewife. Judy had a variety of interest and talents including oil painting, needlework, gardening, and sewing. She also loved traveling internationally with Dwight and all over with her sisters and close friends. At any given time of year, you could find her and her sisters at a Reds opening game, a Neal Diamond concert, Keenland, or who knows where.
As a full-time mom, Judy supported and encouraged Betsy through school and life. When Betsy brought soon to be husband Michal home, she welcomed not only him but also all of his family into her life. As time passed and families grew, Judy and Dwight were regular attenders of cross-country meets, plays, musicals, and show choir competitions both for their grandchildren as well as extended family members.
Judy is survived by her husband, Dwight, daughter Betsy (Michal) Howden, grandson Christopher (Samantha) Howden, granddaughter Alexandra (William) Ellison, and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Zionsville Meadows Chapel, 675 S. Ford Rd, Zionsville on Monday June 3 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm with services beginning at 6:30.
