Joycie D. Crago, 88, of Indianapolis passed away on August 30, 2024. She was born in Lafayette, Tennessee to her parents Eunice (Stinson) and Ernest Wheeley on August 7, 1936. At a young age, Joycie traveled to Indianapolis with her sister to start her life. She met Richard Crago on a blind date and married him in 1955. They spent 55 wonderful years devoted to one another. Together they created a beautiful family to continue their legacy.
Joycie worked various jobs in Indianapolis. She enjoyed traveling—specifically out west and to the Rockies. She had a green thumb and took pride in her beautiful gardens, and she also had a knack for crafts. Joycie was an incredibly devoted and involved member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church. Joycie was a devoted wife, mom, “Mamaw”, sister, and friend. She will be missed sorely by all who were lucky enough to experience her kindness.
Joycie is reunited in heaven with her loving husband, Richard; her parents, Eunice and Ernst; and her siblings, Fannie, Heron D, Guretta, and Clemons.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her loving children, Melissa (Richard) Combs, Richard Crago II, and Stephen Crago; her 9 grandchildren; and her 3 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 11AM-1PM at Flanner Buchanan—Washington Park East, 10722 E Washington St. Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229. A funeral service will Immediately follow the visitation beginning at 1PM. Joycie will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery.
