Joyce Delphine (Burns) Meyers, age 91, passed away in Indianapolis on September 1, 2018. She was born February 2, 1927 in Muskegon, Michigan to Delbert and Eula (Perkins) Burns.
She was a proud 1945 graduate of George Washington High School, a member of the Alumni Association and the Lutheran Institutional Ministerial Council, volunteering at the former Wishard Hospital. She worked for the Indiana Department of Human Services, retiring in 1992. She also volunteered at the Indiana State Museum. She was one of the first teacher’s aides in Pike Township and was the former Sorority Mother for Delta Xi Chapter of Delta Chi Sigma Sorority. She was a member of Cornerstone (Carmel) Lutheran Church.
Survivors: include her two daughters: Cynthia Haverstick and Christie (Neil) Huff, four granddaughters and three grandsons; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; one sister (Lola Tharp); three nieces; two nephews, many great-nieces and nephews and one very special friend: Michael Green. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Mark Fry.
In lieu of flowers and as Joyce loved her Scottie dogs, donations can be made to the Scottie rescue (STCGD Rescue, P. O. Box 3344, Dayton, Ohio 45401-3344) or to Lutheran Child and Family Services (1525 North Ritter Avenue, Indianapolis 46219).
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 2 p.m. with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at Cornerstone (Carmel) Lutheran Church (4850 East Main Street, Carmel), Burial will take place in Muskegon, Michigan.
