Josephine Francis Key

November 3, 1943 — December 10, 2022

Indianapolis, IN

Josephine Frances (Jones) Key, 79, of Indianapolis passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Josephine was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 3, 1943, to the late Robert and Nancy Jones.

Josephine met the love of her life, James Key Sr., and they were married on May 12th, 1962.

Josephine was an active member of St. Pius Catholic Church for several years. She sang in the funeral choir and helped during service when needed.

She enjoyed going to Florida with Ron for the winter months. In Josephine’s younger years she used to coach kickball at St Philip Neri when her grandchildren, nieces and nephews were little. Josephine loved spending time with her family. It would make her day if her grandchildren called her to see if she wanted to go do something or come and visit. Or when the great grandchildren would video call! The icing on the cake for both Josie and Ron were the great grandchildren, they would squeal with excitement when they would walk through the door.

Josephine is survived by her loving husband, James R. Key Sr; children, Dorothy (Russ Sperring); James (Tonya Benedict); her brothers; Stephen (Sandy), John; her sister-in-law Rebecca Key; her grandchildren, Andrew, Lyndsey, Terra, Jesse, and Caleb; her great grandchildren, Gabryel, Jayden, Sunny, Trisha, Maiya, Ryder, Ila, Josephine, Willow, Maddie and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Robert and Nancy Jones, her granddaughter; Trisha Todd, her sisters; Roberta (Marvin Deckard), Filomena, Anthonette (Russell Broshears), Stephanie (Mike Kelly), her brothers; Harry (Kay), Anthony (Margaret), and Robert.

A visitation will be held a Flanner Buchanan—Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St. on Thursday, December 15, 2022, from 10AM-12PM. A mass will follow, beginning at 12PM. Josephine will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery.
