Joseph Wayne Jones, 87, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away March 20, 2020. He was born August 28, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan to Henry and Clara Frehling.
During the Korean War, Joseph was compelled to join the United States Army. He was inducted on July 30, 1952 and was honorably discharged on November 24, 1954. During his time in the service, he earned the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, as well as the Combat Infantryman Badge. Our nation remains forever grateful for his dedicated service. Upon his honorable discharge, Joseph followed his heart to Indiana. He began working in the trucking industry, working for Hebrew National, Prairie Materials, and Old El Paso; he ultimately retired from Pillsbury in 1998 after working 40 years in transportation. Joseph was a kind, caring man who loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He adored his dogs and was amazing on the grill, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t BBQ to perfection. He enjoyed all things outdoors especially hunting, fishing, and camping. Family remembers him as a gentle, sweet man with a heart of gold; he knew no enemies. Joseph’s passing leaves an empty space in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to meet him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Clara. Surviving to carry on his legacy are children, Nina (Skip) Donnell, Tina Wooten, Wayne (Judy) Jones, Bryan (Kim) Woodward, Theresa Snyder, and Terry Jones; brother, John Frehling; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
