Joseph W. Smith Sr.

Joseph W. Smith, Sr. 86 of Camby, Indiana passed away January 29, 2023. He was born March 17, 1936, in Reverie, Tennessee to the late Walter and Lillian (Handley) Smith. Joseph worked at Allison’s Transmission for 26years in Skilled Assembly prior to his retirement and owned and operated Smith’s Lawn Service for over 45 years. He loved spending time outdoors, enjoyed gardening, playing golf, going out to eat breakfast with the guys at Hardee’s, playing Euchre, and shooting pool, and spending time with his family. Joseph was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #500 and the American Legion Post #64. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. Joseph is survived by his wife, Wilabob (Herring) Murphy Smith, his son, Joseph “Joey” W. (Sharon) Smith, Jr., his stepchildren, Tamara A. (Ronnie Allen) Murphy, Michael E. (Denise) Murphy, grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Stacie (Shawn) Ward, Nicole (Chris) Martin, his step grandchildren, Nathan Scruggs, Paige Scruggs, Lauren Murphy, Megan Murphy, Jacob Murphy, his great grandchildren, Austin Ward, Nicholas Ward, Jace Smith, Maggie Ward, his great-great grandchild, Roman Ward, and his siblings, Alfred (Everetta) Smith, Omer (Linda) Smith, Floyd Smith, Helen (Marvin) Johnson, and Anita Smith. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Sally Jane Smith, his son, Jeffrey Lynn Smith, daughter in law, Donna Smith, and his siblings, Eugene Smith, and Grace Ray. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023, 12:00 pm- 2:00pm at Flanner Buchanan Floral Park with the service there at 2:00pm. Entombment will be private at Floral Park Cemetery.
