Joseph Virgil Perdue, 92, of Indianapolis passed away on November 26, 2022, in New Castle, IN. He was born in Indianapolis on April 29, 1930, to Virgil and Ava Perdue. Joe graduated from Manual High School in Indianapolis in 1949 where he played basketball and ran track. After graduation, Joe started working at RCA but then enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Fiske for four years during the Korean War. After discharge from the Navy, Joe resumed his career at RCA where he met his wife Gail (Atkinson) and they were married in 1955. Joe retired from RCA in 1985 after 37 years of service as a Materials Controls Supervisor. Upon retirement, Joe and Gail moved to Lake Hartwell, GA where they enjoyed meeting many new friends and were very active with the Crossroads Baptist Church. After Gail’s death in 1992, Joe moved to Lewisville, Indiana and enjoyed his retirement years being with family members, fishing, watching sports and listening to music. Joe was a member of the American Legion, USS Fiske Association and the Lewisville Masonic Lodge #72.
Joseph is survived by his son, Rob (Dr. Ingrid Ozols) Perdue; daughter, Karen (Scott) Wright, grandchildren, Dr. Nikolajs Joseph Perdue, Caleb Wright (Kate), Dr. Emily Hartsock (Nick), Melody Weary and great-grandchildren Abram and Elam Wright.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Gail and his daughter Kelly Weary (Ken).
A visitation will be held Friday, December 2, 2022, from 10:30AM-12:00PM at Flanner Buchanan-Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St. A service will begin at 12:00PM. Joseph will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Humane Society, New Castle, IN.
