Joseph Victor “Joe” Cehovin, age 66 of Indianapolis, passed away on July 25, 2018. Joe was born on May 10, 1952 in Kane, PA to parents, Joseph Leo and Martha Ann (Gustafson) Cehovin. He graduated from Kane Area Senior High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in German from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his master’s degree from Clarion College in Library Science. During his career, Joe worked as Music Reference Librarian for Central Library for 29 years.
Joe loved music and books. He was a founding singing member of the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus; a member of the Professional Choir at the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation; the Indy Winds Flute Choir and Indyvisible.
He was lively and vibrant and a joy to be around. He will be lovingly missed by his mother, Martha Cehovin of Orlando, FL; brother, Stephen Cehovin of Monroeville, Pennsylvania; sister, Paula Cehovin of Orlando; niece Tracy Cehovin, nephew Ryan Cook, 2 great-nephews Jesse Cook and Mason Maluda, and one great-niece Josslyn Davis, all of Orlando; nine cousins; and many other loving extended family members and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Cehovin and both sets of grandparents.
Calling will be held from 7pm until 9pm, Wednesday, August 1, 2018 and again from 11am until 1pm, on Thursday, August 2nd at Flanner Buchanan- Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Ave., Indianapolis. Funeral services will immediately follow Thursday’s calling at 1pm. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Joe’s memory be made to the Indianapolis Public Library- Central Library, LifeJourney Church or the Community Health Foundation, c/o Heart & Vascular Care.
