Joseph Gardner Harding, age 94, a lifetime resident of Zionsville passed away peacefully May 1, 2022. Joe was born on February 8, 1928, in Zionsville, the son of George and Hazel (Gardner) Harding. Joe was a 1947 graduate of Zionsville Community High School. He attended Purdue University. He was a senior industrial engineer and factory superintendent for the Peerless Pump Company in Indianapolis where he worked for 36 years. Joe was active in politics and ran for Boone County Commissioner, District 1 in 1990. He was a past president of the Zionsville Jaycees.
Joe married his high school sweetheart, Jean (Ferguson), in 1959. They were blessed with three children. Jean passed away in 1984. Joe was fortunate to then marry Ann (Breivogel) in 1987. She preceded him in death in 2010. Joe loved to read, especially History. He enjoyed researching Civil War History and family genealogy. He had a love of nature and loved nothing better than sitting out on his deck watching wildlife. Joe’s family includes four sisters who preceded him in death, Germaine (Paul) Chapman, Rosemary (Richard) Dunwoody, Marjorie (Max) Turley, and Joyce (Dale) Meyer; his three children Mary Webber, Barbara Harding both of Zionsville, and George Harding of Westfield; Stepchildren Jane (Robert) Dickerson, Robert (Suzy) Breivogel, Linda Long (Deceased), LeeAnn Mansfield, and Jeff Breivogel; nieces and nephews the late Nancy Chapman and Steve Dunwoody, Jon Meyer, David Meyer, Mike Turley, Paula Hardy, Brian Northam, and John Northam. Joe had 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family invites friends and guests for viewing from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022, with funeral starting at 3 p.m. at at Flanner Buchanan – Zionsville. A private burial will take place at Zionsville Cemetery at a future date.
