Joseph (Joe) Abramo, of Indianapolis, IN passed away peacefully in the arms of his dear wife, Jeanette and daughter, Leanne, on December 16, 2023. Joe was born March 12, 1938, in Montrose, CO. He lived throughout Colorado and Nebraska before moving to Indianapolis in 1976. Joe and his beloved wife Jeanette united in marriage on March 11, 1978.
The son of immigrants, Joe's parents came from Sicily, and settled in Montrose, CO. A savvy businessman, Joe served in the Colorado National Guard ROTC before graduating from Colorado State University in 1960 with a B.S. in Business Finance. He spent over 45 years in the mortgage industry, including 25 years with Postal/Security Pacific Finance as a Regional Director. As the son of a shoe cobbler and salesman, Joe also worked at Goodman Shoes and Redwing. He was a creative individual who enjoyed carpentry, painting, and baking homemade bread. He was an avid gardener and birdwatcher and loved cats and dogs, especially Misty, Sam, Misty, and Lina. In his later years, Joe took great pleasure in putting together puzzles and sharing the hobby with friends. He volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and the Hamilton County Humane Society. Joe was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, where he served as a dedicated deacon and elder for many years and volunteered for Men of Christ. Joe and Jeanette greatly enjoyed taking trips to Siesta Key, FL and fondly remember their trip to Alaska.
He is survived by his wife Jeanette Abramo (King), daughter Leanne Abramo (HC) and grandsons Hugh and Burke Abramo, of Indianapolis, daughter Capt. Amy Allgood, USAF (Benjamin), of Germany, brother Angelo S. Abramo Jr. and sister Rosemarie Abramo, of Colorado. He is preceded in death by his father Angelo S. Abramo Sr., mother Lucia Abramo (Lisciandrano), brother John Abramo, stepmothers Mary Abramo (Massarotti) and Rosalia Abramo (Marchiolo).
Services will be held on January 4, 2024, at the church at 7879 Carroll Rd, McCordsville, IN 46055. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the service following at 1:00 p.m. Joe will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens at 9700 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
