Jonita L. Canfield

December 15, 1943 — July 22, 2018

Indianapolis, Indiana

Jonita L. Canfield, 74 of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at her Franklin Township home on July 22, 2018. She was a long time member of the Southside Seventh Day Adventist Church. Jonita worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Company for many years until being employed by the State of Indiana Family and Social Services Administration where she retired. Upon retirement Jonita spent her time enjoying the company of her family and friends, reading her bible, working out and going to her church on the Sabbath. Jonita was an avid gym goer and worked out at Planet fitness every day. The family would like to thank the staff at Planet Fitness E. Thompson Rd for being kind and welcoming to Jonita over the years. Jonita had participated in marathons and walks for good cause throughout her life and loved to stay active. She never met a stranger; she could always spark up a conversation with anyone she met. We will greatly miss her laughter, her silly sense of humor and her attempts at keeping us in line at family functions. Jonita was a kind and generous person, always willing to help her family and friends when she could. During her time on this earth, Jonita, unknowingly taught us a lot about family, kindness and patience. Although she may be gone she will not be forgotten and her family and friends will be softly reminded of her through their many memories they shared with her.

Jonita was preceded in passing by her mother, Esther (Seirp) Peavler; father, John Peavler; and sister, Patricia Bender

She is survived by her son, James (Angela) Canfield; sister, Carolyn Shockley; sister, Marilyn (Melvin) Bender, Brother in Law, Charlie Bender; Grandson, Kyle (Amber) Canfield; Grandson, Blake Canfield; Granddaughter, Samantha (Francisco) Hernandez; Great Granddaughters, Ryleigh, Madeleine, and Maite; and Great Grandson, Logan; as well as a host of great friends.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Indianapolis Southside Seventh-day Adventist Church.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.

Psalm 34:4-5
