Jon Daniel McGann of Indianapolis died at 10:27 a.m. on March 5, 2021. He was in IU Hospice care at home with end stage pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Glennda McGann.

Jon was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on September 2, 1947 to Felix Daniel McGann, a pharmacist, and Margaret (Belch) McGann, a home maker. He attended Tridelphia High School, class of 1965. He went on to earn a BA degree, magna cum laude, in 1969 from Ohio Wesleyan University. He was a Phi Beta Kappa. He earned a Ph.D. degree in psychology in 1976 from Southern Illinois University. He spent his career in public mental health, private practice, and consulting work with nonprofit organizations.

Funeral arrangements with Flanner Buchanan-Broad Ripple are private. Anyone wishing to do something in his memory is invited to make a donation to the Oglebay Foundation in Wheeling, which supports a beautiful and unique municipal park where Jon served as a lifeguard in his youth and spent untold happy hours.

For those here and across the country who mourn his loss, may this short poem by Robert Frost bring solace:

Nothing Gold Can Stay

 Nature’s first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf’s a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

 ~Robert Frost
