Joi Lynn, born on June 18, 1967, in Indianapolis, IN, was a loving daughter to Gerald and Sylvia Johnson. She was their “love child,” and she always made them proud with her caring and thoughtful nature. As a daughter, Joi was incredibly attentive to her family, always making time for her parents and offering a helping hand whenever needed.
Joi was a devoted sister to Darlene and Geri. As the oldest of three girls, she naturally took on a nurturing role within her family. She was a loving presence in the lives of her younger sisters, always looking out for them and offering guidance when needed. Her bond with her sisters was one of lifelong friendship and love—a testament to her role as not just a sister, but a true confidante and best friend.
Joi grew up in the Indianapolis area, where she laid the foundation for her future—both in terms of academic and lifelong friendships. Joi attended St. Monica's from 1st to 8th grade. She then attended Bishop Chatard High School. After high school, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Joi had two beautiful daughters, Chloe and Chelsea, with her first husband, Eddie Johnson. Joi was the epitome of a loving and devoted mother. Her daughters were her world, always cheering them on at school events, helping with homework, and encouraging their passions. Her love and dedication shaped their lives in ways they will forever cherish. Later, she married James Weeden, and together, they created a blended family that included his children, Lil Jimmy and Justyce. Her love for all her children, both biological and step, filled her heart with warmth and joy.
Joi dedicated over a decade as an accountant at the prestigious law firm, Barnes & Thornburg. Her attention to detail and strong work ethic made her an invaluable member of the team. Her commitment to excellence was evident in everything she did.
Joi had a unique way of keeping in touch with her friends over the years. Whether it was through occasional reunions, phone calls, or simple check-ins, Joi was the type of friend who, even after years, could pick up right where she left off with a smile, a laugh, and genuine care.
Joi truly enjoyed the simple things in life. She had a special love for Disney movies with her grandkids, football, and basketball. She loved taking quick trips to the gas station for a cup of ice (nugget ice preferably) and to play her numbers. While she was content relaxing at home, Joi was always down for a quick casino trip. She knew how to have fun and made sure to travel and create lasting memories with her family and friends. Her faith was an essential part of who she was, whether listening to gospel music in the car, at her desk, or sharing prayers, her spiritual connection brought her peace and strength.
Joi was preceded in death by her Best friend, Shanette Wright-Gibbs, Paternal Grandparents, Floyd and Helen Johnson, and Maternal Grandparents, Lee and Lillian Morris.
Joi is survived by her loving daughters Chloe (Joseph G) and Chelsea (Joseph C), Parents Gerald and Sylvia, her sisters Darlene and Geri (Kathy), and her cherished grandkids Aniyah, Carter, Cooper, Camrie, and Cruz. She also leaves behind her niece Jasmine, and a host of Aunts, Uncles, and other beloved family members.
