Johnnie Mays, 82, passed away March 5th, 2023. He was born in South Point, Ohio, on June 14th, 1940 to parents John Henry Mayse and Lillian Marie (Sturgill) Johnson.
He grew up around Ashland, KY and attended high school in Iron River, MI. He went on to receive several journeyman mechanic and related technical certificates throughout his career.
Johnnie was a talented machinist and millwright. He retired from Ford Motor Company where he worked for over 30 years, and he was a member of UAW.
Johnnie was strong-willed, quick with a joke, and loved to drive fast. He was always a fan of shopping and frequented Harbor Freight to scope out the sales. He loved rock and roll, country music, his Ford vans and trucks, his Mopar cars, and everything mechanical.
He is survived by his children Kimberly (Jesse) Cain, Kristina (Kerry) Lee, Bill (Kalina) Mays, Angel (Andrew) Beever, six Grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Helen Pagel, Eddie Mayse, and special friend, Evelyn Burris.
Johnnie will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
