John Thomas “Tom” Clapesattle, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away November 21, 2018. Tom was born August 3, 1934 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late John Thomas and Mildred Marie (Mendel) Clapesattle. He attended Fort Wayne South High School and went on to receive a bachelor’s in economics and his MBA from IU.
Tom married Barbara B. Coursen in 1960 and they spent the next 27 years together. Later in life they reconnected and enjoyed the last few years of Barbara’s life together before she passed in 2007.
Tom served in the US Army and later went on to work as a buyer for LS Ayers and retired after over 25 years of service. In retirement he worked at K&G for nearly a decade. Beyond his dedication to work, in his younger years Tom loved to fish, bowl, play cards, and ride his bike. He also loved supporting his favorite professional sports teams, the Dodgers, Hoosiers, and Colts. Tom was a family man and rarely missed the children’s sporting events as they grew up. Tom also traveled extensively for both work and with his family.
Tom is survived by his beloved children, Matt (Gina) Clapesattle, Aaron Clapesattle, and Chandra Goldsby; grandchildren, Ethan Thomas Staley, Jakob Edward Goldsby, and Malea Rose Goldsby; sister, Joanne Plyley; nieces and nephews, John Patrick Pemberton, Willard Plyley, Michael Plyley, Jack Jr. Plyley, Sandy Petty, and Suzanne Detweiler. He is preceded in death by sister, Patsie Rae Pemberton and former wife, Barbara B. Coursen.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Old Bethel & Partners Food Pantry at 8032 East 21st Street Indianapolis.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 26, 2018 from 4-8PM with funeral services Tuesday, November 27 at 10AM at Flanner Buchanan- Memorial Park. Friends and family may view Tom’s complete life story at flannerbuchanan.com
