John Thomas Arevalo

John Thomas Arevalo, 63, of Sylmar, California passed away peacefully on Friday, March 3rd with his family by his side. John was a lifelong resident of the San Fernando/Sylmar, CA area. He was born on September 16th, 1959, to Ascension and Guadalupe (Borboa) Arevalo. He was a 1973 graduate of Santa Rosa, and a 1977 graduate of Alemany High School.
John was never shy and had a zest for life that never wavered even through many health issues. He dearly loved his family and his friends. He could light up the room by just walking into it, and if the party hadn’t yet started, it did when he arrived!
John worked for LADWP/City of Los Angeles for over 30 years. He loved being an electrician, and he moved up the ranks to District Building Maintenance Supervisor. He retired in 2016.
John was preceded in death by both of his parents, Ascension (Chon) and Guadalupe (Lupe) and his sister-in-law, Vienna (Robert) Arevalo. He is survived by his wife, Christy; his son, Aaron (Claudia) Arevalo; his granddaughter Penelope Lynn; his sisters, Martha (George) Gonzales, Lydia Arevalo, Anna (Rod) Guzman, Teresa (Michael) Castaneda; his brothers, Robert Arevalo and Edward (Grace) Arevalo; and two of his best friends (pups), Tucker and Teddy. He is also survived by an aunt and many nieces, nephews and cousins who he loved dearly.
Visitation in Indiana will be at Flanner Buchanan Decatur Township on Friday March 24th from 4 – 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 1 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan. Burial will follow the services at Fairfield Friends Cemetery in Camby.
