John Terry Kelsey

John Terry Kelsey, 84 of Carmel, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 after a long illness with Parkinson’s disease.  John was born May 18, 1933 in Detroit, MI to the late Fred and Lorraine Kelsey.  He was a 1956 graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in Economics.

In August of 1956 he and his sweetheart Charlene, were married, quickly followed by his induction into the Unites States Army, all within two weeks’ time.  He was also enrolled in the US Marine Corps program prior to his Army service.

After discharge, John worked for J.C. Penney for ten years, then changed careers to become and Investment Broker with Thompson McKinnon.  Through the years he was associated with A.G. Edwards, retiring in 2002 as Vice President of Raymond James.

John was active in the Kiwanis Club for many years and the Columbia Club.  He was a proud supporter of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, as well as the USS Indianapolis.  John was an avid supporter of the Indianapolis Colts and the Michigan Wolverines.  John served as an instructor at IUPUI.  He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, at one time serving on the Vestry.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 20 at 3:00 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 444 South Harbour Dr. Noblesville, where family and friends are invited to gather from 2:00 until the time of the service.

John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlene; children, James Scott Kelsey and Cheryl Lynn (husband, Steven) Lopes; grandchildren, Rob Ropke and Jamie Lynn (Clay) Cooper; great grandchildren, Rohan Travis Cooper and Pyper Grace Lynn Moyer.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Ann Kelsey.
