John Salz IV passed into heaven on January 18th, 2022. He was born on November 4th, 1958, in Indianapolis, IN. He moved to Carmel in 1968 from Martinsville, IN. He graduated from Carmel High School (CHS) in 1978 and was on the CHS 1976-1977 state basketball championship team. John was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002 with his teammates and beloved Coach, Eric Clark. He and his father, John (Jack) started Carmel Auto Brokers in February of 1990. John loved his job, he used to say, “I have the greatest job in the world, I get to wake up everyday and buy cars!” John was a member of the National Independent Auto Dealers Association and the Indiana Independent Auto Dealers Association. He ran cars on Friday at Indianapolis Car Exchange in Whitestown, IN. He was a well-liked and respected businessman.
John was passionate about sports and coaching. He coached his son, J.W., in Carmel Dads Club (CDC) youth basketball for many years. He sponsored CDC football and baseball. John supported his daughter, Amanda, in her cheerleading and rugby games. Everybody knew what a huge IU fan he was! He found boundless pleasure in ribbing his Purdue friends. He never stopped coaching up the Hoosiers while watching every game in his beloved man-cave. John’s cheering and fist-bumps will be missed.
John and Cassie were blessed to spend two months in St. Pete Beach, Florida every year. They considered it their second home. John will welcome each days’ sunrise and sunset as his ashes will be scattered in the warm, sunny Gulf of Mexico. John lived by the three “Fs” Faith, Family, and Friends. His love of Christ was unyielding, it could not be shaken. John’s love and spirituality was felt by all his family and friends. He shared Billy Graham’s column everyday with his Mom, Joan. John would text Amanda and J.W. every morning, letting them know they were loved and prayed for, and if they needed anything, he was always there. He remained in constant contact with his friends over the years and enjoyed gathering with them as often as possible. John was a true pillar of his friend group.
John was a loving and faithful servant. His presence was felt in every room he entered. His smile, cheerful demeanor, and sense of humor was unmatched. He believed apple cider vinegar was a cure all and ketchup should be put on everything, except chicken. John had immense faith that cargo shorts would come back in style and the salespeople at Orvis will miss him dearly.
John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cassandra (Rusk) his daughter, Amanda Joy and son-in-law Chris Fangman. His son, John William V. He is also survived by his mother, Joan, and his mother-in-law Sharon Rusk. Sister Lynn and Brother-in-law Gabriel Montana, and his nephew, Adam Montana. His brother, Karl Salz and wife Patricia, nephews Jacob and Nathan, and niece, Mia Salz. He was predeceased by his father, John (Jack) Salz Ill and his father-in-law, William (Bill) Rusk.
