In loving memory of our beloved husband and father, John Richard Mangus who peacefully passed on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the age of 78. John was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 31, 1941 where he grew up with his four brothers and sisters and spent most of his life in living in Carmel, Indiana & Ohio. John was married for 56 years to the love of his life, Margie and had two children, John Michael and Michelle. In 1960 he began his 42 year career working in the railroad industry for companies such as New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail & CSX Transportation. He retired in 2002 as the Terminal Superintendent of the CSX Transportation “Big Four Yard” in Avon, Indiana. John enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his dogs, reading books (he was an American history buff), and was an avid fan of college football, especially “The” Ohio State Buckeyes (Go Bucks!) and “The Fighting Irish” of Notre Dame. He was also a model railroad enthusiast which was his true passion. Utilizing his railroading expertise and the help of his family & great friends of the Middlefork & Cedar Ridge Railway Club, he built an incredibly detailed & sprawling model railroad layout his home. This was a hobby he enjoyed with his family and friends. Running the trains always put a huge smile on his face. John was proceeded in death by his father, James Henry Mangus, mother, Agnes Anne Rababa Mangus, and brother, James H. Mangus. He is survived by wife, Margaret LaMar Mangus, children, John M. Mangus, Michelle R. Mangus Hain (James T. Hain), sisters, Donna Mangus Carter, Paulette Mangus Sanders, brother, Paul Mangus (Diana Mangus), sister-in-law, Evelyn Mangus, aunt Yvonne Rababa, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The Mangus family would like to thank all of the doctors and staff of the Ascension/St. Vincent Hospital and St. Vincent Hospice for all of their care and compassion. John will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Fishers, Indiana. According to his wishes, a “Celebration of Life” event will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please donate to John’s favorite charities, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership (ARPO) in Fishers, Indiana.
