John R. Brooks, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2023, at the age of 77, surrounded by his family.
John was born on December 1, 1945, in Indianapolis, IN to the late Harold E. Brooks and George Anne (Thrush) Brooks. After serving in the US Navy for six years, he became a sheriff’s deputy and spent over 40 years serving his community. He was respected by his colleagues and loved by the people he served. John’s faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life and he shared it with enthusiasm to everyone he met.
In addition to dedicated service to his country and community, John was a devoted husband to his wife, Melanie for over 38 years. Together they raised her three children, who loved and respected him deeply. John was also a devoted grandfather to all 7 grandchildren, who he adored and enjoyed spending whatever time he could with them.
John will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and generosity. He was a man of integrity and a true servant of God, always putting the needs of others before his own. His loss will be deeply felt by his family, his friends, and the community he served.
He is survived by his loving wife, Melanie Lee (Glore) Brooks, Stepsons Steven Carpenter (Karen) of Tracy, CA, Andrew Maluck (Julie) of Avon, IN, and Michael Maluck (Heather) of Tipton, IN; and their 7 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 24th, 2023, from 10-12pm at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park North 2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive. A funeral service honoring John’s life will follow at 12 pm.
