Dr. John Michael Edmundowicz, 82, of Carmel passed away peacefully at his home on February 25, 2021. He was born May 18, 1938, in Nanticoke, PA, the son of the late Alphonse and Stella (Bera) Edmundowicz. He married Johanna Pelehach, who preceded him in passing in 1996. On July 11, 1998, he married Judy K. McKinney Kerns, who survives.
John was a 1956 graduate of Nanticoke High School and a 1960 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. He then went on to attend and graduate with his Ph.D. from the University of Delaware in 1966. Following graduation, he accepted a position as biochemist researcher with Eli Lilly in Indianapolis. His work was critical over his 29 years of service in helping to develop numerous medications until his retirement in 1992.
John was a dedicated cruciverbalist, he enjoyed biking and hiking thru numerous National and historic parks that he and Judy enjoyed visiting. He was an avid Indianapolis Colts and Pacers fan; and loved to watch his favorite sport teams, food, and cooking shows on television. He was a great cook and enjoyed fine dining.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 23 years, Judy Edmundowicz; two sons, David Edmundowicz and Michael (Jennifer) Edmundowicz; two step-sons, Robert (Shannon) Kerns and Christopher (Cori) Kerns; 9 grandchildren, Devin, Tristen, Mallory, Morgan, and Justin Edmundowicz; and Kaelyn, Tyler, Owen, and Reghan Kerns; brother, Dr. Alphonse (Josephine) Edmundowicz of Camp Hill, PA; two nephews, Dr. Steven Edmundowicz and Dr. Daniel Edmundowicz and their respective families; and two nieces, Yvette Rose and Colette Chestnut and their respective families. He was preceded in passing by a brother, Joseph Anthony Edmundowicz.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, at The First Church of the Nazarene, 9401 E. 25th Street, Indianapolis. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2021, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive; and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First Church of the Nazarene Food Pantry.
