John Stephen King

October 8, 1939 — November 1, 2024

Carmel, Indiana

John Stephen King was born in Jackson, Michigan on October 8, 1939, the son of John and Helen (Barnett) King, he left us on November 1, 2024, after a struggle with complications of a hip fracture that occurred in early August.

John attended grade school and high school at St Mary's in Jackson, MI. John worked multiple jobs to put himself through Western Michigan University, where he earned a degree in accounting. After graduation he entered the world of cost accounting, working for a series of steel mills in the Gary and Chicago area.

John married Juliana Sredno on October 10, 1964, and they were married for 56 years, with Juliana passing September 1st, 2020.

John is survived by his daughter Kristen Marie (Kerry) Skelton of Minnetrista, MN and son John Matthew King of Whitestown, IN. He is also survived by three grandsons, Jensen Blane, Parker Logan and Reese Morgan Skelton of Minnetrista, MN.

The core of who he was in a nutshell, should be defined as service and commitment. John's life was one of service to his country, his family, his community and his church. He is a veteran of the US Navy and the US Naval reserves. He took care of his wife's uncle, his mother-in-law, his father-in-law and subsequently was Juliana's care giver as she battled dementia for six long years. He was active in local politics and was a precinct committeeman for many years in Merrillville, IN. He was a member of the Merrillville Lions Club where he held positions of secretary and treasurer and when he moved to Whitestown he avidly jumped into service with the Zionsville Lions Club joining in October 5, 2020. He also volunteered at Carmel and Zionsville foodbanks. He had an amazing sense of humor albeit very quiet. He loved his Zionsville Lions and regularly told me about all the events he joined. If you met him, you met a great man. He was humble, committed, selfless and a man of service.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 10-2 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan, 105 W. Pine Street, Zionsville. The Lions will host a white carnation service at 2:15 and a prayer service Immediately after. Following the celebration of his Service and Life there will be a gathering at the Zionsville Lions Clubhouse,115 S. Elm Street, Zionsville, IN. In lieu of flowers, you can donate to Lions Park in Zionsville where he spent countless hours helping and enjoying his fellow Lions.
