Albers, John Juergen Jr, age 83 of Indianapolis, Indiana peacefully escaped this mortal realm on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
John was born on October 15, 1937 in Nashville, Tennessee to Naval Captain John Juergen Albers and Sarah Russell Albers. His family moved often as a child as military families do. He graduated from high school in Medford, Massachusetts. He continued his education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, graduating with a degree in Engineering. During college he joined the Naval Reserves. John enjoyed 33 years being a Seabee in the Naval Reserves reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4th Class (CW04) before retiring.
John was employed by Delco Remy in Anderson, Indiana as a sales and service engineer. After several moves, he made his home in Anderson and remained there for 46 years. During his final years at Delco where he worked for 27 years, he taught classes about the electrical systems in the Engineering School.
John enjoyed community service and was Disaster Chairman for the Madison County Chapter of the American Red Cross from 1971 until 1991, including the 1974 Mother’s Day outbreak of tornadoes and the blizzard of 1978. He was a member of the lunchtime Optimist Club in Anderson for many years.
In 1991, John had a life altering surgery to remove a brain tumor. Complications from the surgery left John in a coma for ten weeks. Upon awakening from his coma, John had to relearn all of life’s basic skills. He worked extremely hard and excelled in rehab eventually returning to a normal life with minor changes. A local mental health group gave the family an award for his resilience through his surgery and rehabilitation.
John returned to working part time in 1993 as a restitution officer for the Madison County Courts. He worked there until he retired in 2011.
John enjoyed many things in his long life. He had an affinity for attracting animals and children who just adored him. He was treasurer for the Anderson Highland High School Band Boosters for 10 years while his kids were in the band. Antique automobiles and auto racing were other hobbies. John many times went to races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but most often frequented Anderson Speedway in Indiana. He loved to travel and in most recent years preferred to go to Burks Falls, Ontario, Canada where the family has a vacation home. He enjoyed the peacefulness and nature up there.
