John Jakupco, 91, passed away on March 31, 2018. He was born on June 20, 1926 in New Britain, Connecticut to John and Anna (Gimma) Jakupco.
John is preceded in death by his parents, son Richard J., son-in-law Michael Schneider, and siblings George, Joseph, Margaret Gerner, Anna Shubat, and Michael.
John is survived by his loving wife J. Maureen (Kelly) of 60 years and their children: John M. (JoAnn), Ann (James) Duncan, Jane, Margie (Chris) Bock, and daughter-in-law Patricia; grandchildren Kaelyn Bock; John and Bradley Jakupco; Austin, Morgan, and Logan Schneider; Matt and Nick Jakupco; sisters Mary Jane Thibodeau and Theresa Jakupco and several nieces and nephews.
John was a 1943 graduate of New Britain High School. He graduated from Purdue University, School of Mechanical Engineering in January 1952.
He proudly served his country in the 78th INF. Division in WWII. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, The Bronze Star, and Purple Heart Medals. He also received 2 Battle Stars. He worked 36 years for General Motors in Connecticut, Michigan, and Indiana. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and The Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10655 Haverstick Road. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana Seminarian Fund. Online condolences may be made by visiting flannerbuchanan.com.
