John A. (Jack) Royse Jr. 91, Fishers. died peacefully on Saturday surrounded by family after a long illness. Born in 1926, he was the only child of John Royse Sr. and Gertrude (Hanf) Royse. Jack attended Saint Joan of Arc, and Cathedral HS. He also attended Georgetown Prep Academy in Maryland where he discovered a passion for golf and earned an athletic scholarship from LSU to continue playing golf there. After college, Jack became a professional golfer and competed on the PGA tour. He later worked as a club pro at various country clubs including Olympia Fields, Long Beach, El Dorado, and Bloomington Country Clubs. He enjoyed the distinction of being the oldest golf pro in Indiana having been at PGA professional for over 60 years and a life member.
In his later years, Jack enjoyed collecting historic memorabilia and won numerous awards while showing his various collections throughout the US. He had a special fondness for Louisiana and spent extensive time there.
He was a past member of Meridian Hills and Hillcrest Country Clubs and St. Luke’s Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor.
Visitation will be held Wednesday at Flanner Buchanan-Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Ave., from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, 11441 Hague Rd, Fishers, IN 46038, Thursday at 11am, with calling one hour prior.
