John Henry Hazard, Jr, 74, peacefully passed away at home on October 23, 2015, surrounded by his family and close friends. He was born July 18, 1941 in Washington, District of Columbia to Agnes Gallagher Hazard and Dr. John Henry Hazard, Sr. John resided in the metropolitan Washington DC area for over 50 years and was a resident of Carmel, IN for 21 years.
John was a graduate of Landon School for Boys in Bethesda, MD where he made and maintained lifelong friendships. He attended and graduated from the College of William and Mary where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He continued his fraternity friendships long into his life as well.
He received his MBA from American University.
John served in the United States Coast Guard and worked for over 30 years at the US Food and Drug Administration, both in Washington DC and Indianapolis, IN.
John was always known for his smile and his easy, laid back approach to life. He was well liked and admired by all who knew him and seldom did John know a stranger given his outgoing manner.
He was an avid sports enthusiast. He particularly enjoyed the football he played in high school and college and continued his interest by being a season ticket holder to the Washington Redskins and later the Indianapolis Colts. He demonstrated his love of sports to his children and coached almost every sports team his children participated in during their school years.
John is legendary among friends and family for his extensive railroad interests and collections and spent many a happy moments riding trains with his father during his childhood and later with friends and his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Agnes Hazard and his sister, Margaret Hazard Bennett. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy Dickenson-Hazard, his son John B. Hazard (Katy), his daughter Anne E. Hoblik (Kevin), his two sisters, Carol Hazard Liao (Winston), Sharon Hazard Wright (Bill), his nieces and nephews and his grand nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to gather Friday, October 30 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Flanner and Buchanan-Carmel. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, October 31 at 10:30 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fox Foundation for Parkinson Disease, the American Heart Association, or St. Vincent Hospice.
