John Robert Hayes, Jr.

John Robert Hayes Jr., age 78, passed away on March 13, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was known to his loved ones as Dad and Junie. 

He was preceded in death by his father John Robert Hayes Sr., mother Ockreada Hayes, sisters Patricia Ann Hayes, Johnetta Hayes, Mary Wilson, Ioa Mae Coffee, and Shirley Hayes.

Junie was a proud veteran of the US Army. John spent time in California before moving his family back to Indianapolis. He pursued a career at FT Harrison and later became a self-employed contractor. He had a passion for fishing, gardening, listening to music, and playing chess in his free time. He also had a passion for antiques. John was known and loved for his famous Bar-B-Q sauce (Johnie Sauce).

He was a dedicated family man.

John completed his education at Windel Phillips IPS 63, Crispus Attucks High School, and IVY Tech where he obtained and Associate Degree.

John is survived by his son Darrell Hayes (Margarita), daughter Angela Holmes, sister Theresa McNeill, Granddaughter LaNisha Haithcock (David), Grandsons Reginald Currie (Lindsey), Malcome’ Green (Jolyssa), Asaiah McIntyre, Great-Granddaughters Ella Haithcock, Zyleah Haithcock, Great Grandsons Kash Green, Zechariah Haithcock, Yumiyai Currie, God Daughter Chrissie Gaddis, Special Friend Shirley Oliver, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

John. will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
