John Freije, Jr.

John Freije Jr. 73, of Indianapolis, Indiana was born on June 13, 1948 to John H. Freije and Helen Capps Freije and joined our Heavenly Father on December 18, 2021.

John was survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 57 years, Patricia Ann Freije; five children; John Gregory Freije (Jamie), Mika Freije Ostler (Jeff), David John Freije (Jamie), Lauri Freije Knott (Brian), and Jaime Lyn Freije (Donnie); 18 grandchildren; Jessica Gerhart, Brenen Ostler, Cody Newman, Camden Ostler, Jordan Freije, Samantha Freije, Landen Ostler, Jacob Freije, Lauren Freije, Bradley Newman, Tirzah Freije, Cole Penley, Ryenne Smith, Noah Smith, Alex Penley, Morgan Penley, Nicolle Streeter, Jeremy Knott; 12 great grandchildren and four siblings, Patricia Gruner (Mike), Charles Freije (Debbie), Latifa Sparks and Jeff Hewitt (Renee).

John grew up in west central Indianapolis and later moved to the city’s west side as a young adult. Early in life, he co-owned Freije and Sons wholesale distributing company with his father and siblings, then later partnered with his son David and brother Chuck to form Freije Paving. John lived to tinker with anything. Every day he created a mission to accomplish and most days he was successful. John loved to tell stories to his family and friends about the deals he worked on and the art of making them. John continued to work until the very end. He wouldn’t have it any other way.

John Freije Jr. was known by several names: John, John Jr. Johnny, Best Friend, Brother, Dad, Daddy, Papaw, Jid-da, Grandpa of the Year and a few that can’t be printed… John was a friend to everyone and a stranger to no one. John loved fast cars (mainly Corvettes), Harleys, Daytona Beach, traveling, playing the lottery, his family and friends. John’s greatest love was for his grandchildren. He had a special name for each one and always put their needs before his. He was the patriarch of the Freije family. John will be forever remembered and greatly missed.

John was preceded in death by his parents John H. Freije and Helen Capps Freije Hewitt and grandson Clay Pope Freije.

A Celebration on Life will be held on Sunday, Jan 16, 2022 at Noon at the Biltwell Event Center located at 950 S. White River Pkwy W. Dr. Indianapolis, IN 46221 317.916.6000
