John Edward Fleetwood, affectionately known as Johnnie, was born on July 2, 1946, in Bedford, Indiana, and left us on March 6, 2025, in Indianapolis. The bond He created with his family especially his great nephew, has left a lasting imprint that will be cherished forever.
Johnnie dedicated many years of his life to shaping young minds, teaching Biology at Howe High School and Fulton Junior High School in Indianapolis, as well as spending time teaching in El Paso, Illinois. His passion for education was further complemented by his role as a Food Inspector for the Porter County Board of Health, where he contributed to the well-being of his community. Graduating from Indiana State University was just the beginning of his journey to inspire and educate.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Johnnie quickly recognized his kind and welcoming nature. He had an innate ability to put others at ease, making every interaction a memorable one. Johnnie treasured the time spent with family, always loving and devoted to those around him. He delighted in the simple joys of life, such as admiring the beauty of model and show cars, particularly Corvettes and his Oldsmobile 442. His enthusiasm for adventure shone bright during road trips and visits to state parks, and he found pleasure in reading newspapers and magazines. A true sports enthusiast, Johnnie was a supporter of the Indianapolis Colts, Indy Car, and NASCAR Racing, always eager to keep up with the latest updates in the world of sports and current events.
Johnnie leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his sister, Deborah Kirk (Joe); a nephew, Josh Kirk (Lenke); a niece, Erika Kirk; and a great-nephew, Sebastian Kirk, along with many other family members who hold their fond memories of him close to their hearts.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, John Oden and Doris Morgan Fleetwood, and his great-nephew, Oliver Hayden Kirk. As we remember Johnnie, we celebrate a life well lived and filled with kindness, warmth, and an unwavering love for family.
