John F. Powers

69, of Fishers, passed away on December 23, 2020. He was born on July 17, 1951 in Muncie, Indiana as the son of George A. and Margaret F. Powers. He graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1969 and went on to pursue his passion of fitness and later to find his true calling.

John started multiple gyms from coast to coast.He initially started his body building career in California. While in California he trained and worked side-by-side with some of the greats like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno. In the late 70’s he relocated to Florida and started multiple gyms in the panhandle area. During this time, he achieved the title of Mr. Florida in bodybuilding and became a proud father to a beautiful boy named Trevor.

Many would think that fitness was John’s biggest passion in life, but it was not.  John’s life truly began when he found the Lord.  Through his relationship and daily walk with God, John felt the most fulfilled. He was driven to share the gospel and share the real purpose of our lives. 

John returned to Indiana in the late 80’s where he once again formed another gym. He focused on personal training and his spiritual journey all the way up to the day he went to be with the Lord.

John met the love of his life in 2012. Judith Acosta, a native of Spain, brought John so much happiness. John worked relentlessly to bring Judith to the United States after a lengthy, long distance love affair. His determination and faith brought his beautiful future wife to be with him in December, 2015 and they were married on March 5, 2016. 

John was completely fulfilled living in his home town with his immediate family, the love of his life, his personal training business, and best of all living and speaking for God. John was blessed in so many ways and he was extremely grateful for all he had been given from his family and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Judith Acosta; son, Trevor Powers; mother, Margaret F. Powers; brother, Michael Lee Powers; sister, Kathy (Dan) Shrout; step-children, Debora, Isaac, & Lorena; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, George A. Powers.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and restrictions mandated by the State of Indiana, the family will be holding private services at this time. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to his wife, Judith Acosta. Due to John’s determination and love for Judith, she received permanent residency on December 14, 2020.
