John F. Hittle

John F. Hittle, 79, passed away June 6, 2017, peacefully inhis sleep. He was born on September 18, 1937, in Indianapolis to the late Bedaand Mary Sullivan Hittle. He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 54 years.

John attended St. Anthony Grade School and was a 1955 graduate of CathedralHigh School. He studied at General Motors Institute while co-oping at AllisonTransmission and was a member of Alpha Gamma Upsilon fraternity. Aftercompleting his fifth year thesis, John attended the Jesuit seminary at Milford,Ohio. Upon leaving the seminary he was recruited in 1962 to teach at the newBrebeuf Preparatory School as the first lay teacher. The following year, morethan a decade after attending St. Anthony together, John and Margie met againat the Slovenian National Home and were married six months later.

John returnedto Allison in 1966 in the engineering division, having a long and distinguishedcareer serving as Manager of Quality Assurance and retired in 1997 as Directorof Sales and Marketing.

He is survived by Margie; sons John (Maria), David,Andrew (Beverly); grandchildren Marcus, Mario, Luci, and Henry; sistersPatricia Hittle and Mary (Bill) Thomas; niece Sydney; nephew Michael; andbeloved family friend Fr. Peter Marshall. He was preceded in death by hisyounger brother Leo.

John loved his God, family, friends, and fellow manfiercely and unwaveringly, and though a short man (he never topped 5’6”), hewas a powerhouse of hands-on Christian charity, contributing his time,treasure, and talent to persons and organizations too numerous to mention.

Johnfought Parkinson’s disease with quiet courage and resolve, living life fully andwith dignity almost two decades beyond his diagnosis. His family is verygrateful for the care John received at Wellbrooke of Avon and the dedicatedhospice staff.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, June 12 at 10 AM at St. MonicaCatholic Church. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 11 from 2-6 PM at Flannerand Buchanan- Washington Park North.
