John Edward Lee

John Edward Lee, 90, of Indianapolis, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017.

He was born on October 10, 1926 in Indianapolis to the late Anthony and Marie (Massing) Lee. John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII and the Korean War. He served on the USS Tripoli (CVE-64) during the Korean War and the USS Saginaw Bay (CVE-82) during WWII, participating in the battles of Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Following VJ Day, he served in the occupying forces of the Japanese homeland.

John was a founding member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He served several years on the church board and as Chairman of the CYO. He was active in youth sports from a young age, coaching football and basketball at St. Catherine’s, baseball at St. Albans, Warren Little and Senior Leagues and basketball at the YMCA. John was an avid golfer, enjoyed sailing and flying the Cessna 182 Skylane he co-owned with his brother, Jim. He owned and operated Indiana Heating and Air Conditioning Corp. for over 35 years until his retirement in 1992.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Lee and Joseph Lee; and daughter-in-law, Stephanie. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lois Lee; children, John Lee, Julia Lee, Jeffrey Lee; brother, Thomas (Lois) Lee; along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Lee will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 4-7pm at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the next morning at 10am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Friends are invited to leave online condolences for the family at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
