John E. Offutt, Sr.

John E. Offutt, Sr. 91 of Indianapolis, IN passed away December 3, 2021. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 5, 1930 to the late Mose and Sybilla (Brody) Offutt. John was a Police Officer for the Indianapolis Police Department for 28 years during this time he held various positions including serving as Assistant Chief of Police. He retired from the department in 1992. He went on to serve as Major in the Sheriff’s Civil Division. John served proudly his country in the US Army. He was a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his loving wife, Bertha (Corbin) Offutt, his children, Karen Offutt, John E. Offutt, Jr., 2 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon and sister Joan. There will be a Graveside Service Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 3PM at Floral Park Cemetery.
