John E. "Ed" Helmer Iii

John E. “Ed” Helmer III, 67 of Avon, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019.  Ed was born January 17, 1952 in Quincy, IL to the late John E. Helmer Jr. and Rita Adele Helmer.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran that received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.

Ed was a truck driver for 29 years, retiring in 2007 with over 3 Million accident free miles from Yellow Freight.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Friday, November 22 at Flanner Buchanan-Hamilton Memorial Park.

Ed is survived by his wife, Noreen Helmer of 32 years; sons, John E. Helmer IV (wife, Emma) and William P. Helmer; brother, Joe Helmer; sister, Peggy Jenkins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
