John C. Benagh

John C. Benagh, 90 of Rushville, Indiana passed away on November 30, 2018. John was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 10, 1928 to his parents, William Hill Benagh, Jr. and Mary Chappell (Rogers) Benagh. John graduated from Western Reserve College and enjoyed a long career in sales, retiring from Ray O’Herron Company, after 26 years of service. John served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism in combat. He also served as a member of the Indiana Guard Reserves, until his mandatory retirement at age 75.

John was very generous with his time, volunteering with the Wayne County Volunteer Fire Department, Captain of the Cleveland Red Cross and volunteer with the Rush Memorial Hospital. John loved nature and enjoyed working on his llama farm, camping and hiking. He also enjoyed reading and wood-working in his spare time.

John was highly outgoing and loved to be the center of attention. He was dedicated to his family and loved supporting his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors from musicals to dance recitals to helping his children with 4-H projects.
John was preceded in death by his parents and twin sister, Carolyn Benagh.

John will be lovingly missed by his wife, Vanessa J. (Duvall) Benagh; children: John Benagh, Jr. (Tammy), Stephen Benagh (Julie), Carolyn Wittmann (John), Sean Hart, Dr. Brian Hart (Heather Fosnaugh), and Sara Schaefer (Marcellus); twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, William H. Benagh, III.

Friends may call from 11am until 1pm on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Flanner Buchanan- Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd, Indianapolis, were funeral services will immediately follow at 1pm. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Indy Honor Flight, P.O. Box 10, Plainfield, IN 46168.
