John Anthony “Johnny” Miller, 65, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.
He was born on January 10, 1954 in Indianapolis to the late Thomas Anthony and Ada Marie (Johnson) Miller. Johnny graduated from Cardinal Ritter High School and went on to complete several classes in the Culinary Arts and Computer Technology. He was a certified chef and worked in several area restaurants before working as a purchaser with Butterfield Foods. Johnny was constantly working on new recipes, using his family as the official taste-testers. He also had a thirst for knowledge and was constantly learning about anything he could; as a result, Johnny was well known as the ‘go-to guy’ for anything computer related. Aside from work he enjoyed gardening, growing vegetables to prepare meals for his family, and tending to the flowers. Johnny loved to read, both fiction and non-fiction, and enjoyed traveling all over the United States. His most memorable trips included a cruise to Alaska and a family RV trip out west. However, his greatest love in life was spending time with his family.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joann Clingler-Miller; 2 sisters, Libby Larson and Margo Barton; brother, Al Miller; 5 step-children and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Johnny’s life will take place on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 1-2pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East. Johnny will be laid to rest in Cumberland Trails of Washington Park East Cemetery at 2:30pm, following the time of gathering in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rock Steady Boxing. Rock Steady Boxing, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, gives people with Parkinson’s disease hope by improving their quality of life through a non-contact boxing based fitness curriculum. Johnny was an active member and cherished the physical and emotional support he received from the group leaders and other participants in the program. Checks may be made payable to Rock Steady Boxing HQ Gym and mailed to 7440 N. Shadeland Avenue, Ste. 202 Indianapolis, IN 46250, c/o Kim Follmar.
