John Anthony Maio

50, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully on December 7, 2016. John is survived by his daughters: Nicole, Francesca (Eli), Antonia, and Emily; sons, Bradley and Jacob; grandchildren, Katherine and Paxton; parents, Michael and Mary Ann; sisters: Theresa (Tony), Catherine, Florence (Gordon), Patricia, Marianne (Darrin), Michelle (John), Antoinette (Steve); as well as his many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other friends. John was a loving father, grandfather and friend to all.

John, a graduate of Cathedral High School and Indiana State University, loved sports and in particular developed a passion for wrestling. He won the CYO Leo J. Mahoney Award in 1980 and was the first freshman to win the city championship and went on to win two more times during high school. John enjoyed coaching at Cathedral, Scecina and Little Flower, as well as mentoring and instilling the value of sportsmanship in those he taught. He also enjoyed raising dogs, particularly his beloved Pit Bulls. John was always there to help his children, parents, sisters and friends for whatever they needed him for.
Visitation will be held from 4pm until 8pm on Monday, December 12th at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, with rosary at 3:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial for John will be held at 10am on Tuesday, December 13th at Little Flower Catholic Church in Indianapolis. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cathedral High School Wrestling, Scecina Memorial High School Wrestling or the CYO Wrestling Funds.
